Problem

People don't have a travel problem. They have a "what to do and where to go" problem. Planning feels harder than traveling.

Young professionals (ages 22-35) crave weekend getaways after long workweeks, but decision fatigue from endless travel options prevents them from booking. They spend 60+ minutes browsing Airbnb, Google, Instagram reels, and TikTok—juggling dozens of tabs, reviews, and filters—only to give up exhausted without making a decision.

Key Research Insights

Decision Fatigue is the Primary Barrier.

Evidence: 83% spend 60+ minutes browsing before booking, 72% gave up in past 3 months.

AI curates ready-to-go itineraries to reduce cognitive load.

Inspiration Creates Chaos, Not Clarity.

Evidence: 89% get ideas from reels/TikTok but feel "overwhelmed and distracted" when planning.

Bridge inspiration to execution: describe vibe, get complete itinerary.

Trust Requires AI Transparency.

Evidence: 78% asked "Why did it pick this?" Trust increased when AI showed reasoning .

Show WHY AI made each choice with transparent explanations.

Some Want Total Surprise

Evidence: 40% said "just pick for me" for truly spontaneous trips

"Surprise me" features lets AI choose everything (destination + itineary)

Solution

Airbnb:Getaway

Made for every kind of traveler.

Getaway is an AI-powered itinerary builder that transforms Airbnb into a modern travel agent. Users describe the kind of weekend they want (mood, budget, interests), and the AI instantly generates a curated itinerary—complete with unique stays, local Experiences, hidden gems, and cultural highlights. One or two clicks to book, or save for later. The spark of inspiration flows directly into a ready-to-go trip.

Impact & Reflection

User Validation

✓ 67% mentioned wanting "things to do" alongside stays, but Experiences section feels disconnected

✓ 89% said they'd use integrated AI itinerary builder

✓ "This solves my exact problem - I always book a stay then separately search for activities"

✓ 95% task completion rate with form-based input (simpler than conversational interface)

Key Learnings

→ Airbnb already has the pieces (stays + Experiences) Users just need them assembled, not more features

→ Simple form inputs work better than open-ended chat for travel planning (structure reduces cognitive load)

→ Some users want control, others want surprise Both workflows needed (form vs. "Surprise Me")

→ Integration is more valuable than innovation Connecting existing features beats building new ones

What I'd Do Differently

→ Test more budget edge cases ("What if AI can't find anything under budget?")

→ Explore group travel inputs (different preferences within friend group)

→ Deeper dining/restaurant integration (currently just suggestions, not bookable)
